Automotive Pathway
|
I've had an interest in automotive since I was a child. My dad was a mechanic, my brother is a mechanic also, having them by my side is very inspirational because I look up to them. I want to be a technician for automotive. I have been taking auto classes at Lindsay high school because it will prepare me for my career.

Job Shadow Narrative
Since I’m interested in the automotive field I job shadowed a automotive mechanic named Manuel. He owns an automotive repair shop in Lindsay, CA. I job shadowed him on March the 4th, 2016. The location of the job shadow was in Lindsay, CA by the plaza. I job shadowed a mechanic because that's a career that’s related to what I want to do.
When I showed up to the job shadow he was already open, his goal was to finish two cars by the end of the day. He did get a few customers throughout the day, but all the cars he had were from customers waiting. They did have home difficulties with a lady's car because of her battery, they first thought it was an alternator problem but turned out to be a battery problem. I couldn't do much because of safety reasons so I would just ask a lot of questions. There was a few thing i was able to do like hand them tools or hook up the scanner.
I learned a lot on this job shadow, not only business wise but mechanical wise too. I learned that having a business is not easy, there will be time were we will not have any customers and days where we will have people waiting in line. I also learned how to scan a car and it tells you where the problem is located and how to fix it. I also learned how to do oil changes and brake jobs, I wasn’t able to do them but I learned the steps on how to do them. One of the things I liked about the job shadow was they were polite to everybody and loved to help customers. What I disliked about the job shadow is that it was a bit messy.
I am still very interested in automotive, I don’t think nothing will stop me from pursuing the career I love and what I have wanted all my life. The reason being I’m still interested in automotive is because I’ve had a dream of being a technician since I was a child.
